I read this book as a teenager and.... I can't say I loved it, but it made a profound impact on me. The story about the lawyer and the social worker mostly passed me by. It was the sisters dilemma that stuck with me, and the fact that each other them were facing incredible odds to try to live their lives on their own terms. The feelings of their brother Jesse, how he was so isolated by his families tragedy, was really impressive. It made me see stories a little differently, and for that I was grateful.
