I've read a couple new fantasy series set in an old world with a previously popular set of characters in the last year or so. Most of them completely bombed. Luckily The Ambassador's Mission bucked the trend. It was fun to catch up with old friends and make new ones in Canavan's world. The problems that they were facing were new and interesting and didn't completely invalidate the struggles and sacrifice of the first trilogy. The only negative thing I would say was that in some cases it was very slow, and it didn't have much of a resolution.
