Scent of Magic - Maria V. Snyder What happened!?!?!?! Touch of Power (Book 1) had a slow start but picked up about a third of the way through. Instead Scent started out with an interesting concept and died around page twenty. It took me three days to get over halfway through, and at that point I'd had enough. Nothing whatsoever happens in this book. Snyder adds a second narrator who has very little to add. Both narrators are kidnapped and held out of the action in some way. The new narrator only exists as means for an info-dump. After the more defined characters in Touch I was sad to see everyone reduced to cardboard cutouts in Scent. Plus Snyder writes right into my giant pet peeve: a character who is traumatized but then is fine. While Avry is bugged by being mind raped almost everything else mostly flies right by her. Trauma is a real deal, not something you can throw in to amp up the tension and should be treated accordingly. I'm done with this series. Hopefully I have better luck next time.
