4.5 stars. Novik's unusual hybrid tale of Captain Lawrence and Temeraire continues in it's second installment. Here there's a reckoning to be paid for Lawrence's capture of Temeraire's egg and his taking it from his original home. China wants it's dragon back, and the pair must travel across the world to convince them that they must stay together.The Temeraire series is a combination of nineteenth century maritime story telling with modern fantasy. Sacrifices must be made on both counts but as a rabid fan of Horatio Hornblower and a lover of all things fantasy these books really hit the spot for me. I wouldn't recommend them to everyone, but I couldn't have enjoyed them more.
